Equality and diversity are a top priority for the European Commission. To fight discrimination and push for more equal societies, the Commission has adopted a proactive approach, with targeted action plans and measures.
As part of ongoing efforts to make good on its commitment to foster more inclusive and fair societies in Europe, the Commission is launching the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award. This new initiative complements the annual EU Diversity Month, which raises awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and across our societies.
The European Commission will hold a high-level event on Diversity on 28-29 April with the Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, where the winners of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award will be announced and EU Diversity Month 2022 will be officially opened.
This event will bring together policymakers, chief executive officers of diversity charter signatories, other organisations and stakeholders.
EU Diversity Month is about raising awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and across our societies. It is about the representation and visibility of different groups, where diverse perspectives are valued and integrated into the work environment.
EU Diversity Month celebrates efforts by organisations to help build equal and inclusive environments for the benefit of all. This initiative is part of the European Commission’s commitment to fight discrimination and promote diverse and inclusive workplaces.
The Award recognises the work done by cities, towns, or regions in Europe to promote inclusion and create discrimination-free societies.
It is open for local authorities to apply and is a chance to show the world what these ‘capitals of inclusion’ are doing to create more diverse and inclusive spaces for their citizens.
